Silver Peace Dollar
The requirement for silver dollars was so low that massive quantities of Morgans were still sitting in bank vaults. That hurdle was overcome with the passage of the Pittman Act on Apr twenty-three, 1918. In addition, the law needed the govt to mint replacement dollars for any that were softened, with domestically acquired silver. More than 86 million Morgan Bucks were struck in that year, by some way the single highest mintage in the coin's history. The measure failed to come to a vote, but one wasn't required.
The job of planning the new coin would usually have fallen to George T Morgan, the mint's chief engraver and designer of the Morgan Dollar . Production of the Peace Buck began on December twenty-one, 1921, and it was placed into circulation on Jan 3rd, 1922. That same day, President Harding was presented with the 1st Peace Dollar . Also, the coins were almost impossible to stack. The relief was dropped significantly beginning with the 1922 issue. That year more than 84 million Peace Greenbacks were struck, the highest mintage of the series. Anthony de Francisci's design featured his rendition of Woman Freedom on the obverse.
His better half, Teresa, was the model for the sculpture. The font used is an example of the then-popular Art Deco style. The first design for the coin's reverse featured a Bald Eagle holding ( or standing on ) a damaged blade, symbolizing peace. The planning of the Peace Dollar drew substantial feedback on its release.
In every peace dollar there are 0.7735 troy ounces of silver. There are 20 coins in a roll of peace dollars. Which means that a roll of Peace dollars contains 15.47 troy ounces of silver.
