Silver Roosevelt Dimes
And, in critical techniques, it helped set the tone for much of the new US coinage that came in its wake. At the end of World War II in 1945, 3 U.S. coins - the cent, nickel and quarter - carried portraits of famous presidents. In contrast, FDR had been dead for only weeks when the Roosevelt dime was allowed.
Roosevelt had died on April twelve, 1945, at the age of 63, straight after beginning his 4th term in the presidency and just some months before the end of the sour war.
Indeed, observers think the strenuous efforts needed of him as a wartime president shortened his life by years. Lots of his fellow citizens idolized FDR for his role in leading the state thru both the Great Depression and the war during his twelve years in control of the ship of state.
But while these suitors viewed his New Deal programs as leading edge and mandatory, similarly fervent detractors considered them intense and even threatening. For that reason, praising him on the dime - while logical in retrospect - stirred predicted protest at the time. Seriously , Mint artists have designed the majority of the regular-issue coins introduced since that time.
Each 1946 -1964 Roosevelt dime contains .0723 troy ounces of silver. So in a roll of 50 dimes there is 3.615 troy ounces of silver.
